The naive age of Sergey Brin (Google Co-funder)

Sergey Brin on taking moonshots & the value of failing

Sergey Brin talks about the value of fails on "Solve for X".
  • An idea about twenty years age, in the initiative age of Web, the internet fax: program (generate little script to generate a little web server) -> fill order -> send fax to the pizza store's fax machine. Ha ... he and his friend "wait-and-wait" and "are still hungry" ...
The idea was failed instantly. Brin then works with Larry Page to investigate data mining, hyperlink analysis, ... for Google search engine.

Thinks followings:

  • Requirements of out daily life are motivations to great inventions.
  • Programmers are able to carry out the idea soon and verify the feasibility.
  • Try-and-error is a good learning path for accumulating experiences.

Best words in this Brin's talk:
It's kind of randomness of life, the path that takes. But now I've recognized that really the challenge of a problem or the importance isn't that related to how like you are to achieve it. And the fact, even when you go after a more ambitious goal, even you fail to achieve that one, all the side effect that come along the way, can be that much more rewarding and significant in their own right.
